FAQs

Getting Started

I opened my account in Great Britain. Where do I find my account documentation?

All personal current accounts opened in branches in Great Britain before October 2019 are now Clear accounts. You can read above about the features of the Clear account and find the documents for your account here.

What is a current account?

A current account is a type of bank account that helps you manage your everyday money transactions. It allows you to deposit, withdraw, and transfer money easily. You can use a current account to receive your salary, pay bills, and make purchases using a debit card.

Choosing an Account

What is the difference between a current account and a savings account?

A current account is a bank account for your everyday money needs. You can deposit and withdraw money, pay bills, and use a debit card for purchases. It’s like a hub for managing your day-to-day expenses.

On the other hand, a savings account is a bank account where you can put aside money for the future. It usually earns you some interest over time – in other words, you receive a little extra money for putting your money aside.

If you have money that you don’t need for everyday use, even if your current account pays interest you should think about using a savings account. A savings account could give you higher interest and will help you save for your future.

Can I compare current accounts?

Yes, you can compare current accounts by navigating to our comparison table above. Here, you’ll be able to decide which account is best for you by finding out which products have features such as arranged overdrafts and interest.

I’ve changed my mind about opening an Account. Can I cancel?

If you are not happy about your choice of account, you may cancel it within 14 days. We will help you switch to another of our accounts or we will give all your money back. To do this no notice will be required and no charge is payable.

Using a Current Account

How can I manage my current account?

All of our current accounts can be managed online using 365 Online, on the go using our mobile banking app, in person at our branches in Northern Ireland and at Post Office branches across the UK.

Can I have a joint current account with another person?

Yes, you can have a joint current account with another person, such as a family member or a friend if all account holders are eligible for that account. A joint account is a shared account where both of you have access to the money. It can be useful for things like managing household expenses. Just remember that both account holders are responsible for the account and any debts or charges associated with it.

How do I switch my current account?

The easiest way is to apply for your new account online making sure to answer the switching questions. Just have at hand:

  • Your existing bank account number and sort code
  • Your existing account debit card (if you have one)

Please call 0800 0850 444 for free Mon to Fri 9am to 5pm if you:
